Eating fashionably late
If you ever end up in a restaurant in Manhattan before 9pm — you will notice two things. It’s either full of tourists or empty because the locals havent sauntered in yet. When Holly comes to visit us, she is forced to eat on “New York time” which lies somewhere around 8:30pm on a weeknight and 9:30pm on a weekend. Although, health-concious, stick-skinny New Yorkers will talk your ear off about the merits of walking to and from work, eating half a Cosi salad for lunch and drinking straight vodka instead of a sweet cocktail, what they will never give up on is their late-night dinners much to the disagreement of health and diet gurus around the world. So, how does a southern girl with a Trim & Terrific cookbook in her kitchen deal with eating healthy foods at healthy times while maintaining an active social life at New York restaurants? Easy: eat your Trim & TerrificĀ entree at home and your salad at 9:30pm at a hip, West Village restaurant. Hey, you gotta stay fit while fitting in, right?
