Cancer Caregiver Support Tips for Eating Well Through Cancer Challenges

As soon as you learn a loved one or friend has cancer, you want to be able to help in some way and need cancer caregiver support. A snack, casserole, or running an errand can bring joy and happiness to the person not feeling well.  However, being there to listen and offer a warm smile is often the greatest gift.  Here are a few helpful hints from my cancer cookbook, Eating Well Through Cancer and a Snack Mix recipe to help with cancer caregiver support. All my recipes for cancer patients are about eating healthy with healthy easy recipes.

  • Prepare meals in disposable containers when dropping off food.
  • Drop off food and also supply paper plates and forks for easy clean up.
  • Prepare meals that may be frozen to pull out as needed.
  • Go grocery shopping with your loved one’s list.
  • Prepare and purchase ready to eat snacks.
  • Stock the pantry with healthy and tasty food.

Easy Snack Mix Recipe For Cancer Caregiver Support in Cancer Cookbook

Many times someone going through treatment has difficulty eating and sometimes snacks are a good choice.  Eating snacks throughout the day can offer a person something to munch on. This Snack Mix from Eating Well Through Cancer makes a great option for a caregiver to take over to someone’s house. Remember to take in a disposable container and this snack mix lasts a long time. Here’s an easy recipe that makes a great snack mix any time of day.  Sweet and salty mixes are always a great combo and this is an addictive combination. Use different colored M&M’s for a festive touch.

Snack Mix
Here’s an easy Christmas snack mix recipe and it makes a great snack mix any time of day. Best of all, you can really use this recipe any time of the year. Sweet and salty mixes are always a great combo and this mix is addicting!
Servings 20 (1/2 cup) servings
Ingredients
  • 3 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 4 cups crispy wheat cereal squares
  • 6 cups mini pretzels
  • 1 cup dry roasted peanuts
  • 1 cup candy-coated chocolate pieces
Servings 20 (1/2 cup) servings
Ingredients
  • 3 tablespoons sesame oil

  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 4 cups crispy wheat cereal squares
  • 6 cups mini pretzels

Instructions
  1. Preheat oven 250°F.   Line baking pan with foil.

  2. In small bowl, whisk together sesame oil, honey, soy sauce, garlic salt, and onion powder.Toss together cereal squares, pretzels and peanuts in large bowl. Then, drizzle oil mixture over cereal mixture and toss gently to coat.

  3. Scatter mixture on prepared pan. Bake 25 minutes, stirring once.  stay in oven 1 hour to continue crisping. When cool, toss 4. Turn off oven and remain in oven 1 hour to continue crisping. When cool, toss chocolate candies and store in an airtight container.  Best of all, make this recipe ahead of time because it stores up to one week in covered container.
