How lucky can a girl get? To be on The Harry Connick Jr TV Show two times in one month! Harry Connick has been a long time favorite and he lived up to my expectations both times on our cooking segment. He liked to grill and wanted my input on how to grill steaks. I have the secrets to grilling perfect steak and can’t wait to share with you my grilling steak tips! I told him I would also show him how to grill pizza which he never had before. Actually, the Margherita Pizza from Guy’s Guide To Eating Well cookbook turned out to be his favorite recipe of all.
How To Grill Steaks? Start with My Grilling Steak Tips For Grilling Perfect Steak
Do you know what the three most popular steaks are to grill? Well, if you watched my segment on The Harry Connick Jr TV show you know the answer! Ha! How to grill steaks? First, let’s start with the three most popular cuts of meat: Rib eye, Sirloin and Strip.
- Strip: Sometimes called a New York Strip is known for its texture and how buttery flavor. It has less fat content than a ribeye.
- Rib eye: Tends to be the most popular of the three. The marbling of the fat makes the ribeye juicier and more tender with so much flavor.
- Sirloin: Leanest cut of all three steaks. Look for cuts ending in “loin’ or “round” for leanest cuts.
Grilling Steak Tips For Grilling Perfect Steak
Of course, the three cuts of meat above are the most popular grilling steak choices but I love everything cooked on a grill! So, how to grill steaks? When it comes to seasoning, really all you need is salt and pepper. You can use a marinade and but when you start with good quality meat the grill brings out the wonderful flavors of the meat. You want to cook your steak at least 4-6 minutes on high heat on each side to sear in the juices, depending how you prefer your steak. So, here’s my simple grilling steak tips for grilling perfect steak. These are easy tips on how to grill steaks!
- Sear the outside of the steak to seal in the juice
- Never pierce a steak with a fork because that can release the juices and dry out the steak
- Let the meat come to room temperature
- When the steak is done, let is sit at least 5 minutes before cutting (this is a tough one because I never can wait)
How To Grill Pizza From Guy’s Guide To Eating Well Cookbook
Whenever someone picks up my new men’s health cookbook, they always flip to the Grilled Shrimp Margherita Pizza. From radio to a friend, everyone wants to try this recipe. Actually, when I tested recipes, I couldn’t quit eating this grilled pizza and actually, my friend Chris Jackson is the one who showed me how to grill pizza. So, when I was asked on The Harry Connick Jr Show to show Harry how to grill, I knew I had to include my popular and fabulous grilled pizza recipe from Guy’s Guide To Eating Well. I love to grill pizza because there’s no clean up and unbelievably delicious.

We used chicken instead of shrimp and I like showing the versatility of a grilled pizza recipe. Turn into a vegetarian recipe and leave off any protein. From the Grilling Chapter in my new men’s cookbook.

If you missed either of my segments, I have them for you to check out. Harry is one of the most genuine talented people I have worked with. The segment was truly lots of fun. I was selected by Walmart to feature their high quality meat and chicken and fresh produce. I believe in affordable ingredients and my motto is one-stop shopping at a mainstream grocery store so this was the perfect segment for me to showcase my recipes from Guy’s Guide To Eating Well and how to grill steaks and how to grill pizza. I have been asked what kind of grill we used on The Harry Connick Jr Show and this is the electric indoor grill we cooked on. Sometimes I use a grill pan but I want to get this as it was clean and worked really well. If this indoor grill is good enough for Harry it definitely is for me!
Perfect if you don’t have a grill and don’t like to grill! At the show, I loved the nonstick feature and the knob to adjust the temperature. You get the sizzle and the grill marks without all the outdoor heat (remember I live in Louisiana).
