Chicken Shawarma
The secret is in the marinade, a savory spice mixture, that infuses the chicken with fantastic flavor making this an easy home version of a familiar favorite. (The long ingredient list is for the marinade.)

Ingredients
  • 1/2cup nonfat plain Greek yogurt
  • 2tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1/2teaspoon dried oregano leaves
  • 1/2teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4teaspoon ground clovesoptional
  • 2pounds bonelessskinless chicken breasts
  • Yogurt Sauce(recipe follows)
  • 6 whole-wheat pitas
  • 1 cucumberpeeled and thinly sliced
  • 4 Roma tomatoesthinly sliced
  • 1 small red onionthinly sliced
  • Romaine lettuce
Instructions
  1. In shallow dish or large plastic bag, combine yogurt, lemon juice, garlic, oregano, cumin, cinnamon and cloves, if desired, mixing well. Add chicken to marinade, coat well, and refrigerate 4-24 hours, time permitted.
  2. In large nonstick skillet, cook chicken or grill until done, about 15-20 minutes, turning halfway through. When done, thinly slice.
  3. To make pitas, spread Yogurt Sauce (see recipe) on pita, top with chicken, cucumber, tomatoes, onion and lettuce. Roll sandwich closed (wrap sandwich in foil to help stay closed).
