Amazing German Chocolate Cookies to Tempt Your Sweet Tooth

Celebrate that Football is Back with Easy Party Pick-Up Dessert

Hooray football is back! Excitement, anxiety and anticipation fill the air each weekend to watch football games. Whether you are a college or pro football fan, sitting in front of the television – you can guarantee there will be a crowd around the food. The perfect party food feeds a crowd, is good at room temperature and appeals to all ages. To tempt your sweet tooth, German Chocolate Cookies from Holly Clegg’s Too Hot in the Kitchen cookbook are an easy and outstanding pick-up. And you won’t believe it but they are even diabetic friendly! Made with a coconut, pecans, oatmeal and dark chocolate, these sweet treats will win you over even if your team is losing.

German Chocolate Cookies
Coconut, pecans, oatmeal and dark chocolate in a rich chocolate cookie just about covers my criteria for a bombshell cookie!
Servings 3 dozen cookies
Ingredients
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup canola oil
  • 3/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon coconut extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 cup cocoa
  • 1 cup old-fashioned oatmeal
  • 1/3 cup flaked coconut
  • 1/3 cup chopped pecans
  • 1/3 cup dark chocolate chips
Servings 3 dozen cookies
Ingredients

Instructions
  1. Preheat oven 350°F. Coat baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. In mixing bowl, beat together butter and oil. Add brown sugar, mixing until creamy. Add egg, vanilla and coconut extract, mixing well.
  3. In small bowl, combine flour, baking soda, and cocoa. Add to creamed mixture, mixing well.
  4. Stir in remaining ingredients. Drop by rounded teaspoons on baking sheet. Bake 8-10 minutes or until edges are just firm.
