Mouthwatering Taste of Mediterranean Favorite At Home
A homemade Chicken Shawarma? Yeah, Holly went there and it will knock your socks off. We are in LOVE with Holly’s Chicken Shawarma recipe from her KITCHEN 101 cookbook when we are looking for an at-home Mediterranean recipe to spice up our lunch or dinner plans. A magical blend of yogurt, lemon, chicken and Mediterranean spices make this homemade chicken shawarma wrap mouthwateringly delicious. Don’t be scared by the ingredient list, the process is simple and it will instantly become your favorite go-to wrap recipe!
Servings 6 pitas |
- 1/2 cup nonfat plain Greek yogurt
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano leaves
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves optional
- 2 pounds boneless skinless chicken breasts
- Yogurt Sauce (recipe follows)
- 6 whole-wheat pitas
- 1 cucumber peeled and thinly sliced
- 4 Roma tomatoes thinly sliced
- 1 small red onion thinly sliced
- Romaine lettuce
Ingredients

- In shallow dish or large plastic bag, combine yogurt, lemon juice, garlic, oregano, cumin, cinnamon and cloves, if desired, mixing well. Add chicken to marinade, coat well, and refrigerate 4-24 hours, time permitted.
- In large nonstick skillet, cook chicken or grill until done, about 15-20 minutes, turning halfway through. When done, thinly slice.
- To make pitas, spread Yogurt Sauce (see recipe) on pita, top with chicken, cucumber, tomatoes, onion and lettuce. Roll sandwich closed (wrap sandwich in foil to help stay closed).
