Family Favorite Easy Buttermilk Pie For Best Buttermilk Chess Pie Recipe
Growing up, Holly’s grandmother would make an easy Buttermilk Pie with this brown sugar Streusel Topping Recipe for every special occasion. Besides it being so moist and delicious, it was a family favorite dessert. Now, of course, Holly created this Buttermilk chess pie recipe trim and terrific in Gulf Coast Favorites cookbook. It still makes its way to the family table often. No one will ever forget the year grandmother forgot to add the sugar to this pie – we all took a bite and knew something was different. My easy southern Buttermilk Pie recipe with brown sugar Streusel Topping recipe is delectably rich and custard-like but definitely not the same without the sugar!
Servings 10 servings |
- 2 eggs
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 3/4 cups buttermilk
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 9-inch unbaked pie shell
- Streusel Topping
Ingredients

- Preheat oven to 325°F.
- In mixing bowl, beat together eggs, sugar, flour, buttermilk, and vanilla. Pour into pie shell.
- Bake 30 minutes. Reduce oven temperature to 300°F. Sprinkle with Streusel Topping, and bake 50-55 minutes or until set.
- Turn oven to broil, broil about 2 minutes. Watch carefully. Let stand 20 minutes before serving.

- 1/3 cup light brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon butter melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
