Simple Flavorful Combination for Thai Beef Lettuce Wraps

Thai Beef Lettuce Wraps make a last minute dinner!  Do you ever make Thai beef recipes?  I was craving hoisin sauce and had extra ground meat so I this recipe from my KITCHEN 101 cookbook immediately came to mind. I love Hoisin sauce.  Hoisin sauce is used in Asian recipes.  Though not similar in flavor, hoisin sauce is often thought of as Chinese barbecue sauce.  It has a thick texture, dark color and variety of dipping and marinating uses. Hoisin ingredients can vary but the base contains soybean paste, salt, spices and sweeteners – lending savory sweet flavor to these wraps that just melts in my mouth. Plus, this easy Thai beef recipe is made with a crunchy lettuce leaf – the perfect light spring to summer meal to leave you satisfied not stuffed! I love Thai recipes as they usually have lots of flavor and are healthier.

Sometimes I even get in a cooking rut and just don’t feel like cooking.  These Thai Beef Lettuce wraps are not only simple but also a great way to introduce you to Thai beef recipes.  This Thai lettuce wrap can be such a quick last minute meal.  I had leftover avocado so I whipped up some avocado toast.  However, most of the time, This easy lettuce wrap is so satisfying I don’t make anything else.

Thai Beef Lettuce Wraps from my KITCHEN 101 cookbook

A tangy, spicy meat mixture with toasted sesame seeds wrapped up in lettuce leaves for a quick-fix meal. This is one of my easy, healthy Thai beef recipes.

Makes 4 (1/2 cup) servings

1 pound ground sirloin
1 cup chopped onion
1/2 teaspoon minced garlic
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
3 tablespoons Hoisin sauce
1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger or 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1 tablespoon sesame seeds, toasted (buy already toasted)
1 tablespoon seasoned rice vinegar
1/2 cup chopped green onions
Boston or red tip lettuce leaves

1. In large nonstick skillet, cook meat, onion, and garlic over medium heat 7 minutes, or until done. Drain excess grease.
2. Stir in pepper flakes, hoisin sauce, ginger, sesame seeds, vinegar, and green onion.
3. Divide mixture on lettuce leafs, wrap to eat.

Terrific Tip:  One of my favorite tips is buy already toasted sesame seeds which is a time saver!  You can find the toasted sesame seeds in the spice or Asian section of the grocery.
